I am out Monday and Tuesday for the PETE and &C conference. I have posted the lesson plans below.

Monday, Feb. 22
Bell Ringer : Type I to be completed in Writer's notebook/Type 1 Journal. List at least 3 things you know about attention-getting openings and introductions in two minutes. You may list words and phrases. At the end of two minutes, please take one minute to read over what you wrote and add anything else you can in this time. Next, share in small groups.

Task 1: Log on to http://owensowns.wikispaces.com. There are directions for both remaining tasks on my wiki. They can find these activities on the pages indicated on the chart paper and on the today’s date under – What We Did Today” on the classroom wiki. Once they get to the wiki, they need to continue the work on my GLOG. This page is located under Stirring Up Justice - item number 2 – the questions they need to complete are listed under item number 3. Students have had opportunity to work on this before, so they should know where to go. They should help anyone who was absent. They should also read the info on the easel and chart paper. They can put their journals back one table at a time as they work. They have 25 minutes to work on this. Please tell them we will vote tomorrow. If they are already finished with the blog or they finish before the 25 minutes, they should move on to the next task.

GLOG questions should be shared via Google Docs (Last Name CA 8. LBGlog?

Task 2: Pass out handouts (on my desk) as students need them or after the 25 minutes they had for Task 1. Students should open us their Digging Deeper notes and their first 6 notes. They should complete the handout based on their notes – this includes highlighting the notes in Google Docs and filling out the sheet. Please collect the sheet at the end of class – whether they are finished or not. They have 10- 15 minutes to work on this. If they finish earlier, collect their sheet and they may read or work on finding more info if needed. I have attached the handout here. Absentees: Please print out (you can complete on the computer the print out) or receive a copy form me.

CLOSURE: With 4 minutes left, please make sure all handouts are collected, students have returned their writer’s notebook to their folder in the crate, and they have logged off the computers. Period 5 will need to completing shut down and plug them in. make sure all computers are shut down – have them show you and then plugged in – they go on the bookshelf to the right of the printer. They are use to this routine – putting them away is new to period 5 – usually my PM Homeroom does it.

Bell Ringer : You need to write a reflective paragraph of a minimum of five lines. They have 5 minutes to complete this. (You may extend this to 7 minutes if needed by the majority). We will be concluding our last lit circle meeting this Thursday – with the VoiceThreads, and I will be providing each person/group with feedback before we begin our next lit circle. However, I would like to hear your thoughts. Write and say this: Using two of the following areas please tell me how you think you preformed in your literature circle group. Area 1: Creating good questions, Area 2: Listening Skills Area 3: Being Prepared Area 4: Staying on task Area 5: participating in the discussion. Please remind them that is a Type 1 – there is not a grade for this, but it must be completed. This should take about 5 minutes – 7 minutes – no sharing. Have them hold on to their notebooks; they will use them for closure.

Task 2: Students should review their own blog comment. My blog address is: http://dtsdapache.hershey.k12.pa.us/c3e3/owensowns/ I have approved about 20 of them at this point, but as I was reading them over many of them were not on track. The post is below:
“On August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were murdered in their home by someone. Circumstantial evidence pointed to one of the daughters, Lizzie. Because at the time women were thought to be physically weak and morally incapable of violent premeditated murder, Lizzie was acqitted of all charges. In your opinion, would Lizzie have been acquitted if the trial were held today? Why or why not? (this is what they are being asked to answer, but here is the requirement in answering it…(next page)
This blog will be used as a Type 2: I will be looking for an opinion statement and 2 facts from the text or website to back up your opinion. They need to keep in mind that a fact is evidence that can be proven. A well-supported opinion is not a fact.
Have students reread their posts to make sure they have truly answered the prompt with an opinion statement and that they have provided the facts they needed. If they have, they need to read at least 10 other comments that are currently posted. Once they do that, they want to return to the GLOG and then vote.

Task 3:
They need ot finish the note task from yesterday – if they did not finish. Pass out handouts (on my desk) as students need them or after the 25 minutes they had for Task 1. Students should open us their Digging Deeper notes and their first 6 notes. They should complete the handout based on their notes – this includes highlighting the notes in Google Docs and filling out the sheet. Please collect the sheet at the end of class – whether they are finished or not. They need to finish this today. If they finished this yesterday or finish before the end of class, collect their sheet and they may move on to TASK 3. Collect any others before they leave.

Task 4: As soon as they have competed Tasks 1 and 2, students should then go to the literature circle page on my wiki: http://owensowns.wikispaces.com They are going to listen to book talks on the next set of lit circle groups. Before they, get started, they may return their old lit. circle book to the library – if they need it for the VoiceThread – have one group member keep 1. If they are not finished, they need to finish by Friday, they will have a writing task related to their book to compete on Friday. After returning their book/have accessed my wiki page, they will select the link on the lit circle page – marked Law and Disorder lit circles. They will need head phones to listen to the task. They must listen to the Prince (P) slide first.

After listening to all of the book talks, they should list their Top 5 – they can do this on Google Docs – they are not to share with me …this is for their record. I will give them a form when I get back.

Closure: With 5 minutes left, ask students to set up another type 1 page in their writer’s notebook. I would like them to list what they know about the Salem Witch trials. If they do not know anything, have them tell me what they would do to find out – include where they would look. Please allow 2-3 minutes to complete. They are to return (by table) the folder to their crate. They also need to make they log off. Period 5 need sot make sure they totally shut down and plug the computer in – the computer needs to be placed back on the bookshelf to the right of the printer.

Bell Ringer: Posted on board - absentees see me when you return.
Task 1: Turn to page 32. Read the following aloud to them: Johnannes Julius, a 17th – century German mayor, is repeatedly tortured while their authorities insist that he name others who are involved in witchcraft. Weakened by torture, he lies and provides names. In a letter to his daughter, he claims that his lying is his only crime.TT
Task 2: Review the definition of scapegoat. Guide them to understanding that is about looking for innocent people to blame. Think about the following as you read:
1. Read critically to find two levels of confession implied in this letter. What is Junius confessing in this letter?
2. Why would Juniuis confess to made-up acts? Why would he falsely accuse some of his acquaintances?

Task 3: Read the letter aloud or have them read in pairs. With 5 minutes left, stop reading – mark stopping point.
G.
Closure: Have students log off and talk in small groups about the two questions above.
